I've spent all day going backwards & forwards to the bloody computer shop (not my work, another one - for those who don't know,
which I assume is no-one as pretty much only my friends/family/aquantences/stalkers would know this URL, I work in IT & I have for about
ten years now & still no MS certs, yes I'm lame, back to the story...) partially 'cause the young bloke kept giving me the wrong bits
& partially cause my karma must be up it's arse lately. First there was no onboard video, which I specifically asked for, then the RAM
was DDR-400 instead of DDR2-533 (ie: the wrong sort, for the non-geeks reading), THEN the damn video card I got from work was dead,
which I think Cobber (aka tech manager @ my work) said was dead but I was too spaced out to process it until 3hrs later when I tried
it... yes I'm a deadshit.
So at least my favorite mother in law's new PC is a happening thing (yes, she's my only mother in law so the favorite thing
is a joke, she's nice, totally not like the sterotype of a raging battle axe, but I digress) but I've temporarily sacrificed my GeForce
6600 to the cause. So Celery 3.33, Gig of DDR2 + old 2nd hand crap = way better PC than her current PIII500, strangely enough.
Yesterday was crap too. I met Andrew, his Mrs & 1.5 kids at ReefHQ for a look at the fish & corals, as you do. Not too bad that, good
start to the day. Problem was just before that I'd made two stops to find some digital kitchen scales with a nice 1g resolution to
weigh my hops & grain with (I'm a home brewer, except I cook my own partially fresh wort, I don't use kits like at the supermarket) and
after it I made another 3 stops, which I didn't need to cause Andrew told me where to go & I'm just a tard. So yeah, way too much running
around given my limited energy envelope (I have ME/CFS, again for those mystery people who don't know me, google it)
Speaking of limited energy, I'm thoroughly shagged (and not in a good way) so that's it for tonight. If anyone bizzarely has any questions

Well, today. No, not really well today. I sorted the video card issue no worries, that's one job done. I even managed to put on a
roast beef dinner tonight (yay for George Foreman). What I didn't manage to do is eleventy billion things I wanted to do, lets start
with work... not much to say there, I turned up a zombie & unlike normal stayed a zombie, usually I come good within an hr or so, but
today I was still zonked at 11am so I figured I'd better go while I had a chance of driving home safely. I had a chance & it seems I
took it, as I'm typing this & I don't recall any damage to my shitter (3 banger Charade).
Speaking of shitters, my new years resolution was to work on the other shitter I have (well, technically two) the Datto. I've got to
get the water trap off my Dad's shagged compressor and adapt it to the shitty Supercheap 2.0hp jobbie, that is just big enough to run
my spraygun (in theory). THEN I can actually paint the car & look at attaining that resolution - to finish the car this year.
Seems simple enough, they are a very basic car, not much too them. Once apon a time I would have smashed through it, but now not so
simple. You really don't realise how much you take your health for granted until you don't have it anymore, well that can be said of
virtually everything in this world can't it? But health, lets look at it. I can't work full time due to this stupid illness, which
the average idiot thinks means I have stacks of time on my hands, well guess what - I do have stacks of time on my hands, but I don't
have the ability to use it! Much worse than a dole bludger who simply doesn't have any money to do things, which is a problem I have
too of course, however I've saved my pennies & got the paint so I can actually paint the car, I also have all the tools but I ask you
- when am I to do it? I would be working full time if I could, but I can't, so this extra time that at first seems a blessing is
actually useless as tits on a bull, no worse, tits on a grasshopper. So my resolution is to make the time, somehow. Do a little bit
each week. I mean this is a job the healthy me would have knocked over in a weekend or two, it's something I really want to do yet 2 years
later it's little closer to reality. Why is that? It's not motivation, believe me, every time the Charade shats itself I wish I'd made
time for the Datto. So what's the hold up? Try not being able to drive for a year, not being able to talk coherently, having to meter
out your energy like your battery is constantly flat. That's the problem, the every day stuff that people just do & think nothing of
is a struggle for those with ME/CFS. Take showering, not very hard is it? You'd think not but believe me, it can be. Even feeding
myself has been difficult at times, so restoring a car? Yep piece of piss, or at least it will be. Watch this space...

Well, I got the watertrap going & tested the Supercheap compressor, all go so perhaps some paint will get on the car after all?

Well, as previously mentioned I got the compressor going - it does a mighty fine job of it too, it shows how stuffed the supposedly
bigger unit really was. So I got another coat of high fill on the hanging panels & did the door jambs & sill on the drivers side,
plus most of the area around the boot seal before the tin emptied & I stopped for lunch. Perhaps pics of a beige Datto to follow?
This is not an april fools joke either, an april fools joke would be that it's finished.

Finished the undercoat today - very few imperfections jumped out at me other than the one I knew about, so a little more blade putty
and a little more undercoat & she's in for a final flat back before it goes from beige to yellow. w00t!

The car got rubbed back & washed on Good Friday (mostly thanks to my lovely wife Sonja), the plan was to start painting today.
Unfortunately this didn't happen. I started feeling ill yesterday afternoon whilst at a family Easter gathering (inlaws), it only
got worse today. Another family gathering this morning (my side) went OK, though I was a bit spaced out - a bad sign. Got home &
was totally fubar, spent most of the day in bed trying to recover, Oh well. Have a BBQ to go to tomorrow lunch time that I may or
may not be up to, so it looks like no paint this weekend.
Kinda makes me frustrated that I'm trying really hard & failing. Well not actually failing, just succeeding very slowly. ;) That's
the thing, plenty of people give up when life doesn't go their way. So, the lack of control of my life is a constant issue, I can
plan as much as I like but as the phrase goes, shit happens. That's the thing though, we really only have an illusion of control to
begin with, the only true control we have is in our reaction to circumstances. So I'm choosing to not give up. After all, to use yet
another cliché, Tomorrow is another day.

Got some colour on the car, here's a sneak peek...

The colour is Canary Yellow, by Septone. (aka, cheap premixed acrylic from Supercheap) I chose the colour because dark colours make
these cars look even smaller than they actually are and seeing as yellow was already on my short list & it was cheap, winnar!!1one.
I didn't get much of the body painted, just the hanging panels. Can't rush this, last time I did two full guns of paint I got sick
so easy as she goes & all that. Hopefully it'll all go on as nice as this did.

Well a week or so back my cousin Ryan came round & in exchange for virtually limitless beer got stuck into the bodywork & fixed
heaps of imperfections that jumped out in the sunlight - the beginning of the top coat that was laid down has been rubbed back
as it wasn't upto scratch, the whole shell is ready for another couple of thin coats of primer for a final check/rub back before
colour goes on for good this time. The Guards are fitted to the shell, the bonnet & bootlid are loosely fitted for painting & the
front doors are part way through the prep stage.
Plan is to get everything primed, paint colour on all the door/boot/bonnet jams then refit the panels & do the final top coat.
Hopefully more action this weekend....

Well Ryan came around & got stuck into it Thursday arvo & most of the day Friday. Now the whole car is primed, doors & all, plus the
final rub back has started on the shell. Getting closer now, just need to sand back one guard, the door jambs & the doors & then the jambs
can get some final colour onto them.

My buddy Andrew & I had a few beers last night & changed the starter motor on the A14 in the old shell, but the damn battery was
flat so we didn't actually start it. I got it going today tho, geez she's loud straight out of the extractors!
Big thanks to my mate Aiden who hooked me up with a starter motor, thanks heaps dude!

Missed out on a few updates, I've actually had quite a bit of progress thanks to my brother Tim & my tax refund. Basically the whole shell
is painted & buffed (not cut/polished yet), the doors are back on & I'm working on the suspension/steering prior putting the motor in.
Also the windscreen seals have been ordered & should arrive shortly.

Gunders & I stripped out the front suspension Friday night, Mic & Joe dropped around a ball joint remover that actually works on Saturday,
then Tim & I stripped the rear suspension & steering today (Sunday) so the car is up on the stands for now. The underside of the floor has
been cleaned up & painted/deadened, so it's looking tidy.
I just need to replace the tie rod ends & maybe the main steering bar to get the whole front end sorted. Oh, also need castor rod bushes as
I need to confirm which castor rods fit (I "think" the Stanza ones to suit the LCAs, depends on length) as I already have all the sway bar
bushes to suit the 20mm swaybar (up from 17mm stock) that I have. Then I can fit the big brake struts with the new inserts & complete the
disc brake upgrade/conversion on the front, well also need new wheel bearings & possibly even discs.... it never ends!
The back I'm just going to lube the rear leaves & fit the new shocks for now, might get them recoed/reset later if the car is too high or
axle tramps too much. Obviously need the wheel bearings, new slave cyls & new shoes for the drums, might need the drums resurfaced too.
We also put the 12" rims on the parts car & took the 13" alloys inside ready to get the good rubber put on them & polish 'em up. I'm taking
the rubber of the charade before disposing of it.
Also I have to respray the bootlid as the paint shrunk over the rust repairs, it's copped a heap of spray putty today to flatten it out,
I've also painted the front springs, swaybar& rocker cover with yellow engine enamel ready to go into the car.
Think that's it for now? Got a lot done in the last month or so.

Ok, I've been buying shit & doing little bits & pieces on the car so time for a half arsed update....
I now have an accelerator cable that actually fits & works with the backwards weber (the 32/36 I have is apparently a mirror image
one to normal, to suit an Astron motor, so needs a longer cable). I bastardised a new generic cable & the original sheath - as the
outer was long enough but the inner wasn't. Anyway, now I can be a good bogan & rev the shit out of my A14 with open headers in the
backyard, considering my neighbours screw around on those mini 2 stroke dirt bikes all day I'm still not the worst in the
neighbourhood - might have to do skids out the front or something, tho I need brakes for that. Could butt up against the fence I
The front suspension is done, I have all the gear for the rear but first I'm fixing up the steering next so the front is all done,
sans brakes anyway. I want to have most things done suspension/brake wise before I get it back to rolling shell stage & fit the
engine. As mentioned, I also have all the gear for the steering - problem is 3 out of 4 of the tie rods won't fucking come off!!
The joints are seperated no worries (cheers Joe aka Ferret for that ball joint seperator, I really have to remember to bring it
back around) but they won't unscrew from the shafts. Soaking in WD of course, don't have heat so I might need to see someone
with a blowtorch or oxy...
Should start reassembling the doors, dash, lights & whatnot too - though they can wait till the mechanicals are sorted.
